I Specified the Wrong Woodgrain Texture (and it cost me $1,200)

But if you're working on a purely functional, out-of-sight application—like a concealed fascia in a mechanical penthouse—you probably don't need to get physical samples. Just order the standard line. This level of detail is for the front door, not the back room. Honestly, if the architect doesn't care about texture, you might be better off sticking with a standard woodgrain metal soffit finish. Don't over-engineer the hidden stuff.
