Woodgrain — Seven Decades of Authentic Wood Surface Craftsmanship

Founded in 1954 in Fruitland, Idaho, Woodgrain began with a single mission: deliver the genuine warmth and character of natural wood to homes and buildings across North America — without the downsides of solid lumber.

Today, we operate four manufacturing facilities, serve 12 countries, and have helped install Woodgrain-textured surfaces across more than 500 million square feet of residential and commercial space.

What We Believe

🌲

Authentic by Design

We study natural wood grain — its knots, lines, and tactile variation — and replicate it with precision embossing and chromatic printing that survives decades outdoors.

🔩

Engineered to Perform

Beautiful surfaces that fail in service are a broken promise. Every Woodgrain product is load-tested, weather-cycled, and third-party certified before it reaches a job site.

🤝

Partners in the Trade

We're a family-owned company that understands the building trade. When you call Woodgrain, you reach someone who knows your project type and your region's codes.

Our History

Seven decades of growth — from a regional millwork shop to North America's most recognized woodgrain surface manufacturer.

1954

Founded in Fruitland, Idaho as a regional millwork and door manufacturer serving Pacific Northwest homebuilders.

1971

Introduced proprietary woodgrain embossing technology — the first North American manufacturer to achieve consistent grain depth across fiberglass door skins.

1988

Expanded into exterior siding and soffit markets; opened second manufacturing facility in Utah.

2002

Achieved ENERGY STAR Partner status; launched first GreenGuard-certified interior door line.

2014

Reached 250 million sq ft of installed products milestone; FSC chain-of-custody certification achieved.

2024

Celebrating 70 years. 500M+ sq ft installed. 48 species profiles. 12 countries served. Still family-owned.

Certifications & Standards Compliance

Every Woodgrain product is independently tested and certified to the standards that matter most to builders, architects, and code officials.

WDMA I.S.6A

Window and Door Manufacturers Association performance certification for exterior door systems.

ENERGY STAR

U.S. EPA partner; qualifying door and window products meet federal energy efficiency criteria.

FSC Chain-of-Custody

Forest Stewardship Council certification covers all wood fiber used in Woodgrain composite products.

GreenGuard Gold

UL GreenGuard Gold certification confirms low chemical emissions — safe for schools, hospitals, and homes.

How Woodgrain Products Are Tested

Every product line undergoes both factory process controls and independent third-party testing before receiving certification. Our quality assurance program covers four test disciplines, each with published pass/fail thresholds available in our technical data sheets.

To verify any performance claim independently, Woodgrain provides free physical sample sets to licensed architects, engineers, and specification writers on request. Contact our technical team to receive samples and the corresponding test data package for any product line.

WDMA I.S.6A

Weather Cycling Test

Environment: Controlled thermal cycling chamber, -29°C to +60°C, 95% relative humidity cycles. Method: Doors and panels subjected to 10 full thermal cycles per WDMA I.S.6A Section 4.3 protocol; visual inspection under 75 ft-candle illumination after each cycle. Pass threshold: No warping >1/8", no finish cracking, no delamination of skin-to-core bond. Woodgrain result: Fiberglass door line has passed 100% of WDMA certification cycles since 2002 initial certification.

ASTM D4587

UV Resistance Test (Cladding)

Environment: QUV accelerated weathering chamber with UVA-340 lamps replicating 1,000 hours of outdoor UV exposure equivalent. Method: Cladding panels tested per ASTM D4587 cycle conditions — 8-hour UV at 60°C / 4-hour condensation at 50°C, continuously for 2,000 hours. Pass threshold: Color change ΔE <3 (perceptible to trained eye but not to general observer). Woodgrain result: Metal cladding profiles achieved ΔE <1.8 at 2,000 hours — exceeding standard requirement by 40%.

UL GREENGUARD GOLD

VOC Emissions Test (Interior Products)

Environment: UL GREENGUARD environmental chamber at 23°C, 50% RH, 1 air change per hour. Method: Interior door and laminate products tested per UL 2818 Gold Certification Program, measuring total VOC emissions and individual compound limits. Pass threshold (Gold): Total VOC <0.5 mg/m³; formaldehyde <0.0073 ppm (more stringent than California Title 24 standard). Woodgrain result: Interior door skins and laminate panels certified at <0.3 mg/m³ total VOC and <0.004 ppm formaldehyde — within school and healthcare occupancy limits.

ASTM E119

Fire Resistance Test (Fire-Rated Doors)

Environment: UL-certified furnace facility, full door assembly including frame, hardware, and glazing. Method: Fire-rated door assemblies tested per ASTM E119 time-temperature curve with concurrent hose stream test per NFPA 252. Pass threshold: Maintain integrity (no through-flame passage), temperature rise <250°F average on unexposed face for rated period (20, 45, 60, or 90 minutes). Woodgrain result: Rated assembly options independently tested at all four rating levels; certification labels issued by UL, ITS, or Intertek per customer project requirement.
